Floristry or  flower arranging is the skill of creating flower arrangements from cut flowers, foliage, ornamental grasses and other plant materials. Florists are people who work with flowers and plants, normally in retail outlets.

The art of floristry requires several skills. This includes an aesthetic sense in selecting flowers that will compliment each other, knowing how to trim and cut stems in such a way that the display lasts for as long as is practicable. Also different types of floral displays are required for different events e.g. birthdays, weddings, funerals.

The flowers sold in florist shops typically represent the varieties abundantly available in the season however it is possible for plants to be greenhouse grown so they are produced earlier in the season or air freighted from another part of the world so that it is now possible to have fresh flowers almost all year round.
