Detectives are appealing for information following two robberies at Mark Jarvis bookmakers' on Friday April 4.

The first incident occurred at the bookmakers on Northampton Street in the City at around 5.50pm. A man entered the premises and threatened the cashier with an object in a white carrier bag. No weapon was seen during the incident.

The offender then left the premises with a quantity of cash before making off on foot. He is described as black, of slim build and was wearing a dark hooded top and black tracksuit bottoms. He may have been carrying at least one bag, a brown ‘Primark' paper bag.

The second incident happened at the bookmakers on Melbourne Road in Highfields at about 8.05pm. A man entered the premises and threatened the cashier with an object in a white carrier bag. No weapon was seen during the incident.

magnifying glassThe offender then left the premises with a quantity of cash before making off on foot. He is described as black and between 5'5" and 5'7" tall. He was wearing a dark hooded top and a baseball cap with a beige peak.

Detectives are keen to hear from anyone who saw any activity in these areas or who noticed anyone loitering near the bookmakers prior to the incidents.

Detective Constable Grover Campbell, who is investigating these incidents said: "Although no one was hurt during the incident, staff at the bookmakers have been left extremely shocked and distressed.

"Due to the similarities between these two incidents, we currently believed they may be linked. We're conducting a number of enquiries including viewing CCTV but would obviously be keen to hear from anyone who witnessed these incidents or who saw a man matching this description.

"If you were in the area and haven't yet spoken with the police we need to hear from you. Even small details that you think are insignificant could be important so please get in touch if you think you can help."
