Information on Leicester

calendar

A new calendar featuring pictures of Watermead Country Park will go on sale tomorrow.

The calendar contains 24 images from two local photographers and illustrates the diversity of the park.

Images include the popular King Lear Statue, the sun setting over the park’s lake, a hummingbird hawk moth and even a grass snake.

All profits from the calendar, which has been printed in Leicestershire on 100 per cent recycled paper, will be reinvested in Watermead Country Park.

The calendar also features a map of the park, detailing the footpaths and cycle tracks which are set to be improved as part of the £1.4 million Sustrans’ Connect2 project. The scheme won a share of £50 million ‘Big Lottery’ money last December in a TV vote.

Ernie White, Leicestershire County Council’s Cabinet member for Community Services, said: “This calendar features some stunning photography. It is an ideal gift both for local people, and friends and relatives who have moved away, as it is easy to send through the post.

"These are exciting times for Watermead, as we look forward to starting work on improving the paths in the park soon.”

The calendars cost £9.99, and are available from Leicestershire Tourist Information Centre in the Town Hall Square, Leicester, online via the ‘eshop’ at www.goleicestershire.com or by calling 0116 305 6918. It will be on sale soon at other shops across the county.

The calendars will also be on sale at Bosworth Battlefield’s Medieval Re-enactment this weekend, and on Bank Holiday Monday at the Wood Fair, at Beacon Hill Country Park.
