Information on Leicester

MAINTENANCE work on a major bridge carrying Leicester's outer ring road is due to start.

Routine repairs are due to be carried out on the Braunstone Way Bridge which carries the A563 over Hockley Farm Road, off Hinckley Road.

Work is due to start on June 8 and is scheduled to last for 14 weeks. It will be carried out in phases to ensure the bridge remains open to two-way traffic throughout the work.

In addition to general repair work, modifications will be carried out to the parapets and safety barriers of the bridge, which was built in 1984-5, to ensure they meet modern standards.

Letters have been sent out to residents and warning signs have been put up alerting people to the work.

Leicester City Council's principal engineer for bridges, Abul Tarafder, said: "This is necessary work to ensure the bridge remains in good condition for future motorists.

"It is being done in phases to avoid the need for road closures, but delays can be expected because of the work so drivers should allow extra time for journeys to avoid disruption."
