A NEW centre offering training and help to staff at schools, colleges and universities across the region is due to open at a Leicester special school.
Ash Field School, in Evington, is due to officially open the doors of the new Regional Professional Development Centre in an event on Friday, June 6.
The school caters for children aged between four and 19 from across the East Midlands. The move to create the new training centre comes after the school became one of the very few schools in the country to be awarded three successive exceptional Ofsted reports.
The training centre will be officially opened by Her Majestyâs Chief Inspector of Education, Childrenâs Services and Skills, Christine Gilbert, who is guest of honour at the event. She is due to arrive at 11am.
Also attending the event will be Leicesterâs Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Roger Blackmore, and Leicester City Councilâs interim chief executive, Sheila Lock.
The centre, which was completed last year and opened its doors for the first time last summer, is designed to provide training for around 5,000 students, teaching assistants, teachers, health and social service staff from organisations across the region each year.
Courses on offer range from practical skills and mentors to academic qualifications, and are aimed at a range of abilities.
Ash Field principal, David Bateson, said: âThis recognises the work which goes on at the school, and will help further extend our trailblazing specialist school status by offering a high level of training across a range of subjects and skills.â

Work on the £450,000 school kitchen and a £95,000 community cafe was completed at Caldecote Community Primary School in Braunstone at the beginning of the summer term.
