OFSTED inspectors have removed a city primary school from Special Measures and say it is living up to its motto âLaying foundations for the futureâ.
Knighton Fields Primary School was put into Special Measures 18 months ago. It is celebrating this week after Ofsted found the overall effectiveness of the school to be satisfactory, and many areas of its work to be good.
Areas classed as good by the inspectors include the Foundation Stage, the personal development and well-being of the pupils, and the leadership and management of the school.
Headteacher Pete Wood took up his post shortly before the school went into Special Measures 18 months ago. He said: âThis really is an excellent report as the school has come out of Special Measures two terms earlier than expected. This is down to the hard work and dedication of all staff, children, and parentsâ.
Cllr Vi Dempster, the city councilâs Cabinet member for schools said: âEveryone at Knighton Fields has worked very hard to really improve things there. Ofsted found that they have good capacity to make more improvements, which means that if they keep this up they can really flyâ.
Areas the school will be working to improve include the rates of progress for higher attaining pupils, developing the role of subject leaders, and increasing the proportion of good or better teaching and learning.
Located on Knighton Fields Road West, the school has about 200 pupils.
