VISITORS who cycle to this yearâs Summer Sundae Weekender music festival will be rewarded with the chance to win a fabulous biking holiday.

Leicester City Council has teamed up with cycling charity Sustrans and bike holiday specialists Saddle Skedaddle on the scheme which aims to encourage more people to come to the festival on cycles instead of cars.

Festival-goers arriving by bike will simply need to complete a registration form at the Ride Leicester bike parking area and hand it to a member of staff. They will get the chance to win a two-night break at the picturesque Hadrianâs Wall cycle route between Newcastle and Carlisle.

Increasing numbers of visitors have used sustainable forms of transport, including cycling, to travel to the Summer Sundae Weekender over the last few years.

Leicester City Councilâs cycling co-ordinator, Andy Salkeld, said: âRide Leicester volunteers aim to make Summer Sundae the most people and bike-friendly festival in the UK.

âWe provide a secure bike park throughout the festival, free bike repairs, goodie bags, and maps for people arriving by bike, as well as a popular rickshaw service to help people and goods get around the site.â

Summer Sundae festival director, Richard Haswell, added: âThe numbers of people coming to the festival by bike have been incredible over the last few years since we introduced secure bike parking.

âPeople are making the most of the facilities because it means they can leave the car at home and have somewhere safe to leave their bikes. Thanks to the support of Sustrans and Saddle Skedaddle, thereâs now even more reason for people to come along by bike.â

Vickie Robertson of Sustrans added: âPeople can sign up for the free holiday offer at the Ride Leicester bike park or visit our information stand to find out more about what we do to promote cycling.â

Bike parking will be available on Thursday, August 7, from 2pm to 11.30pm, and from 10am to midnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 8, 9 and 10. It will also be available from 9am to midday on Monday, August 11.
