People can slim their bin this Christmas by picking up a 'green cone' as a stocking filler.
Throughout December, a range of food waste digesters and composters are available at massively reduced prices of up to 50%.
A green cone transforms cooked and uncooked food into nutrients and along with composters, wormeries and food digesters, have been made available for Leicestershire residents since May.
Leicestershire Waste Partnership is running the offer to encourage residents to cut their food waste. County households produce almost 3kg of food waste per household per week which usually ends up in landfill - this equates to throwing away 390 tins of baked beans every year.
The units below are available from 1st - 31st December:
• Green Cone now £14.95 was £29.95
• Green Johanna now £27.45 was £54.95
• Bokashi Bins now £9.95 was £19.95
• Wormery now £22.45 was £44.95
• Komp 250 now £14.95 was £19.95
Nicholas Rushton, County Council Deputy Leader and Chairman of Leicestershire Waste Partnership, said: "By using a food waste digester or composter, residents can help to cut the amount of waste sent to landfill over the festive period. At these heavily reduced prices, they make a fantastic, green Christmas present."
Residents can find out which food waste digester or composter is best for them by visiting the waste section of the website . Orders can be placed online or call the dedicated order line on 0800 019 2061.
The offer is subject to availability and limited to three units per household.
This offer is only available to Leicestershire residents excluding Leicester City.
For more information, please visit the County Council's website or call 0116 305 7005.
