Highways, Transportation & Waste Management
Leicestershire County Council has secured grants of more than £300,000 to promote sustainable travel to schools in Leicestershire.
A total of 16 schools are benefitting from schemes to improve walking and cycling facilities.
The grants have been awarded by sustainable transport charity Sustrans, on behalf of Cycling England, to support changing how children travel to school.
The money is helping to support the introduction of crossings, speed reduction measures, cycle tracks and cycle parking being jointly funded by Leicestershire County Council.
Nicholas Rushton, Deputy Leader of Leicestershire County Council, said: “This project will make a big difference to the 16 schools. The new facilities for cycling and walking being installed at these schools will visibly reduce traffic at the school gates.
“Our excellent joint working with Sustrans has brought substantial investment in transport infrastructure to the County over many years. The provision of these grants has enabled a greater number of schemes to be provided than the County Council could have afforded on its own.”
