Burglary at home of 74-year-old

Police are appealing for witnesses after a burglary at the home of a 74-year-old woman.

The victim, who lives in New Romney Crescent, Thurnby Lodge discovered her home had been broken into sometime between 7pm and 11pm on Wednesday, January 21.

During the burglary, large amount of costume jewellery was taken, along with a 9 carat gold sapphire ring. The ring was given to her by her late husband in the 1950s as a gift.

Detective inspector Geoff Brooks who is investigating the burglary said: "This incident has left the victim extremely distressed and fearful in her own home. The ring is of great sentimental value as her husband died just before Christmas and it was one of her lasting memories of him.

"We would urge anyone who was in the area of New Romney Crescent on Wednesday afternoon/evening and saw anything suspicious to let us know.

"Did you see anyone acting suspiciously? Did you see an unusual vehicle in the area? Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem could help with our enquiries."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact on DI 15 Geoff Brooks on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 0015. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
