50,000 reward for information following robbery JCB Telehandler machinery

JCB Telehandler machinery

Detectives investigating an armed robbery at a cash handling centre in Beaumont Leys have released images of vehicles similar to those involved in the incident.

They're hoping that the pictures, together with a map of key locations, will help bring more witnesses forward to assist with enquiries.

The robbery took place at around 5:45pm on Friday 23 January when three masked men carrying what is believed to be a firearm, broke into the Loomis security company building on Sheene Road, Gorse Hill Industrial Estate and demanded money from the staff.

Two staff members received minor injuries during the robbery and were treated by ambulance crews at the scene. A substantial amount of cash was taken.

Loomis have offered a £50,000 reward for any information which leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible and the recovery of the money taken.

The suspects stole JCB Telehandler machinery from a building site on Broombriggs Road on the new Bradgate Heights housing estate and drove it to Sheene Road where it was used to gain entry to the property.

They then set the machinery alight before making their escape in a blue Ford Focus ST. This was later found abandoned and on fire in Buddon Close which is again on Bradgate Heights.

Detective Sergeant Gary Rogers, who is part of the investigating team said: "There's a very strong possibility that the JCB and the Ford Focus were driven together, in tandem, away from Broombriggs Road on the Bradgate Heights estate to the Gorse Hill Industrial Estate where the robbery took place.

"As you can see from the map we have issued, the suspects would have had to drive along some pretty busy roads and the sight of large plant machinery travelling through Beaumont Leys may have attracted some attention.

"If you did see this vehicle, either with or without the blue Focus, at any time on Friday evening then we'd be keen to hear from you.

"It was close to 6pm and would have been rush hour when the incident happened so there will have been plenty of motorists on the road who could have seen these vehicles. The Focus is a sports version so even that could have turned heads.

"We'd therefore appeal to anyone who travels along Anstey Lane or the A563 on their way home from work to think back. It's very close to Glenfield Hospital, perhaps you were visiting someone there on Friday night or making a trip to the nearby Beaumont Leys Shopping Centre? Maybe you work on Gorse Hill Industrial Estate and were also making your way home? If you recognise any of the vehicles we'd been keen to hear from you.

"There's also a strong possibility that after dumping and setting the Focus alight they will have used another car to make their escape from Bradgate Heights. Perhaps you remember another vehicle making off at speed? Clearly Bradgate Heights was used as a location to both steal and dump the vehicles. Maybe you've been in that estate in recent days and remember seeing suspicious activity?

"All of the suspects were wearing blue boiler suits, two wore crash helmets and another wore a balaclava. Please, take a look at the vehicles, and the map. If they spark any recollections then please get in touch as even the most minor details could be crucial."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact DS 414 Gary Rogers from City Serious Crime Team on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in his identification number 0414. Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers free* and anonymously on 0800 555 111.
