Distraction burglary in Moira
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man in Moira was the victim of a distraction burglary.
The incident took place about 8.40pm on Monday, February 9, on Sweet Hill, when a man posing as a water board official gained entry to the victim's home.
The man distracted the victim by asking him to check his upstairs tap, giving a second man entry to the home.
The victim discovered the two men searching his property downstairs and challenged them when discovering they had stolen £15. The two men then made their escape and the victim found a further quantity of cash had been stolen.
The two men were said to have driven off in the direction of Moira in a silver Volkswagen Golf or Vauxhall Astra. The car had two exhausts in the middle of the rear bumper.
The first man was described as white, aged late 20's, 5'3" tall and of a medium build. He was said to be wearing a woolly hat.
The second man was described as white, early 30's, 5'9" and of a stocky build. He was said to be clean shaven with a round face and had short dark hair.
Detective Constable Paul Davies, who is investigating the incident, said: " We are interested in talking to anyone who was in Moira at this time and who may have seen any suspicious activity.
"I would urge anybody with any information about the vehicle or the two men involved to contact us in order to prevent this from happening again."
Anybody with any information is asked to contact DC 291 Paul Davies on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 0291. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
