Woman robbed of handbag in car on Groby Road
Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was robbed whilst in her car on Groby Road in Leicester.
The incident occurred at about 5.05pm on Friday January 30, 2009 as the 33-year-old victim, who was driving towards Glenfield, stopped at the traffic lights at the junction with Glenfrith Way.
A man approached the vehicle, opened the door and grabbed her handbag from the front passenger seat.
The woman struggled with the man but he managed to steal the bag and made off along New Parks Way with another man who was waiting nearby.
The handbag is described as a teal velour bag with blue sequins on it. It contained a purse containing a small amount of cash and personal items.
The thief is described as white, aged between 19 and 20-years-old around 5'10" tall and of slim build. He had short light brown hair and was wearing a dark jacket. The man with him is described as white, aged between 19 and 20-years-old, around 5'10" tall and of slim build. He was wearing a dark hooded top.
PC David Wadsworth, who is investigating this incident, said: "Although the victim was not injured, the incident left her shocked and upset.
"The area may have been busy at the time with motorists travelling home from work so I would urge any person who may have witnessed this incident or have any knowledge or information as to the identity of the person involved to come forward
"We would also like to remind about the security of their vehicles when travelling. Please remember to keep your doors locked and put all valuables such as mobile phones, wallets and handbags, out of sight as it can be easily appealing to a thief walking past to steal these from your vehicle even if you are sitting in it."
