Appeal following assault and attemped robbery in Melton

Officers in Melton are appealing for witnesses following the report of an assault and attempted robbery of a 43-year-old man.

The incident happened at around 5.45pm on Friday April 3, when the victim was riding a push bike along Asfordby Road toward Asfordby.

As he approached the junction with Rudbeck Avenue he was approached by a group of four youths who pulled him off his bike and hit him in the face. As the victim fought back the four youths ran off across Asfordby Road, empty handed.

During the assault the victim received injuries to his ear and attended the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment.

One of those involved were described as white, about 17-years-old and around 5'9" tall. He was wearing a light coloured baseball cap and a dark top.

PC Christian Coyne, the officer investigating this incident, said: "This man has been left shaken and distressed by the incident and so we are appealing for anyone with information to contact us.

"At this time in the evening people would have been coming home from work and so may have seen something. Were you in the area at the time of the incident? Did you see a group of youths running along or near Asfordby Road? If so we urge you to contact us in order to help us with our investigation."
