Police are appealing for witnesses following a cash in transit robbery at Meridian Leisure Park.

The incident happened at around around 11.50am on Wednesday, April 29 when a security guard was approached by two men, wearing balaclavas and baseball caps.

The men, who are believed to be carrying iron bars escaped with a grey and orange cash box containing a quantity of cash.

They fled the scene in a silver Ford Focus, which was being driven by another man. It was later found abandoned nearby on Centurion Way, Braunstone.

It is believed they made off in a second vehicle, a black vehicle, possibly a Volkswagen Golf which was left on a lay by on Watergate Lane, at the rear of a commercial premises on Centurion Way.

No weapons were used during the incident and the security guard was not injured.

Detective Constable Mike Higham, who is investigating this incident, said: "Our investigations are in the very early stages and we are currently making enquiries into possible CCTV and speaking to witnesses.

"We're hoping the general public will be able to help us find the people responsible and would appeal to anyone who has any information to get in touch.

"We'd ask anyone in the leisure park at or around this time to think back. Did they witness this incident? Did you see the car parked close to the scene of the incident? Perhaps you saw the direction the men took when they left the scene or fleeing from the car on Centurion Way?

"If you saw the direction the men took in the Black motor vehicle or perhaps have seen a similar vehicle in the area acting suspiciously, please call us.

"We would urge you get in touch as soon as possible if you think you can help with our enquires which could be crucial to the investigation."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact on DC 835 Mike Higham on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 0835.  Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
