police, constabulary, leicestershire police Garden equipment stolen from Gilroes Cemetery

Officers are appealing for information following a burglary at Gilroes Cemetery.

The incident happened between 3.30pm on Wednesday May 5 and 6.50am yesterday (Thursday May 6, 2009) when thieves broke into a storage shed within the grounds on Groby Road and stole a quantity of gardening equipment estimated around £4,500 worth in total.

The equipment included an Echo Strimmer, three Solo Hand Held blowers, two Klippo lawn mowers, an Echo hedge trimmer and various tools.

PC Janine Hardy, who is investigating this incident, said: “This burglary has inconvenienced the staff and makes it’s very difficult for them to maintain the cemetery’s grounds as they rely heavily on using these tools.

“It is likely that the thieves would have used a vehicle to transport the equipment and we would urge anyone who may seen someone acting suspicious near to the cemetery between these times perhaps loading a vehicle to please get in touch

“Alternatively if you are approached by someone selling garden equipment matching this description in similar circumstances, please contact police.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 4463 Janine Hardy on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 4463. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
