Children and their families are invited to join James David in a special workshop at Countesthorpe Library on Friday 5th June, 4pm – 5pm, as part of the Behind the Book project.
James David is the author of a series of books about the magical kingdom of Aqua Crysta. The first novel –“Next to time” follows the adventures of Jessica and Jamie who have just moved to a lonely cottage on the edge of a great forest in the midst of the North Yorkshire Moors. The forest has a secret hidden beneath its roots, which draws the children into an adventure full of mysteries, magic and danger. More exciting adventures follow in the subsequent novels.
Mr David’s visit comes as a result of a successful bid for resources by Greenfield Primary School. He will spend the day at school and will come to the library to share his work and writing skills with a wider audience after school finishes.
Admission to the session is free and there will be free refreshments.
Admission will be by ticket available from the library.

Background notes
'Behind the book'; is one strand of Young Ambassadors Leicester Shire's 'Find Your Talent' (FYT) three year pathfinder programme, one of 10 programmes created nationally. The programmes demonstrate how the Government's Cultural Offer for young people of at least five hours of high quality culture a week in and out of school can be put into practice. It is a Leicestershire Libraries project open to all schools within Leicestershire County Council
Find Your Talent gives children and young people the chance to try out different cultural and creative activities. It's about helping them to discover new things, to express themselves, to develop a passion and to make the most of their talent. Whether it is music, art, film, theatre, dance, digital media, exploring libraries, museums or heritage, Find Your talent is for every child and young person, whatever their age and whatever their ability.
Libraries across Leicestershire are seeing an increase in visitors as the UK finds itself in a ‘credit crunch’ and possibly heads into recession. Traditionally, people turn to public libraries during hard economic times - for cheaper entertainment, to help with employment, for free access to computers and to help them save money and be ‘greener’ by borrowing free books rather than buying.
Leicestershire Libraries have seen vast improvements recently as part of the £8 million transformation programme and staff are inviting the public to step into their local library to discover all the up to date services and facilities available for no or little cost.
Visitors will be supported by libraries over the coming months in their health, wellbeing, career prospects, lifestyle and general enjoyment by:
- Stepping up to savings and improving finances – a free internet service where all the consumer price comparison and information websites are available, there are free books to borrow and you can have a cheap night in with a DVD that you can keep for a week
- Stepping Up to success and improving job prospects – with free newspapers, free internet facilities and a large choice of titles for all sorts of learning and development
- Stepping Out - alone or with friends and family to free events
- Stepping Into the library’s welcoming surroundings where you can read all the latest best sellers for free and get up to date DVDs and audiobooks.
- Stepping Up to a challenge - train your brain with crosswords, Sudoku and general knowledge quizzes.
