police, constabulary, leicestershire police Appeal after 21-year-old man assaulted

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 21-year-old man was assaulted last night (Friday June 12).

The incident happened sometime between 8.30 and 9pm in the vicinity of McDonalds fast food restaurant, close to Red Hill Roundabout.

The man made his way to Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment to stomach injuries. He is said to be stable today but police are still in the process of investigating exactly how he came to be injured.

The car park to McDonalds was cordoned off overnight to allow for forensic examination of the scene. This is expected that this will remain in place until Saturday afternoon.

Police have been making house to house enquiries in the area and exploring the possibility of CCTV evidence.

Detective Sergeant Glen Iceton, who is investigating the incident said: “We’ve spent most of Friday night through to today building a picture of events however, we know there are people who witnessed this assault who we still haven’t spoken to.

“This is a busy part of Leicester on a Friday night. Not only is it a key route into the city centre but McDonalds and Blockbuster are popular places to visit.

“We’d therefore urge anyone who was in the area last night, who may have seen the assault or events directly before or afterwards, to please contact us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DS 1863 Glen Iceton from City CID on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in his identification number 1863. Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers free* and anonymously on 0800 555 111.
