Distraction burglary in Syston
Police are appealing for witnesses following the report of a distraction burglary at a property on Barkby Road in Syston.
The incident happened at about 12.55pm on Monday July 6, when two men and two women approached a home owner, whose house had a for sale sign outside, and asked to have a look round the property.
The owner let them into the property and once they had left found that her purse had been stolen.
The purse is described as a red leather purse with a number of bank cards and a quantity of cash inside.
It is believed that the four left in a vehicle parked outside to the property.
One of the men is described as having a tanned complexion, being around 5’7” tall, aged around 40-years-old and was of a medium build. He had short dark hair and was wearing a grey t-shirt and trainers. He was also wearing a pair of sunglasses on his head.
The second man was described was around 5’8” tall, around 20 to 24-years-old and of a slim build. He had dark hair and was wearing a white t-shirt and trainers and spoke with a European accent.
One of the women is described as being around 5’5”tall, aged in her forties and was of a slim build. She was wearing a number of chains around her neck, including a crucifix, a white vest top and had sunglasses on her head.
The youngest woman was around 5ft tall, aged between 16 to 18-years-old and was of a slim build. She had medium to dark brown hair and was wearing a pair of grey high heels with sparkles on.
PC Andy Johnson, the officer investigating the incident, said: “The victim was very upset after the incident and we hope that anyone who has information will contact us and help us with our investigation.
“If you was in the area and can remember seeing the group prior to the incident or saw where they went after then we want to hear from you.
“Only the youngest man from the group spoke as he claimed that the family were from Slovakia and could not speak English. If you are approached by the group then contact straight away.
“I would like to take this opportunity to warn people who are selling their homes to only let people into their homes with an arranged appointment through your estate agent. We have now stepped up patrols in the area and Estate agents have contacted residents to give them advice on callers at their homes.”
