Distraction burglary in Melton
Officers in Melton are appealing for witnesses after a 77-year-old woman reported being the victim of a distraction burglary on Wicklow Avenue.
The incident happened at around 1pm on Monday July 6, when a man approached a window to the back of her property and asked for her gardener’s telephone number.
The victim went to a door at the back of the house to hand over the telephone number but was met by different man. The first man then also came to the door and the two left together back along Wicklow Avenue.
A short while later the victim realised that her brown leather purse, containing a quantity of case, had gone.
The first man is described as white, in his early twenties, between 5'8" and 6ft tall and was wearing dark clothes.
The second man is described as Asian, about the same height as the first man and he was also dressed in dark clothing.
Detective Constable Lee Fowler, the officer investigating the incident, said: “The victim has been left very upset by this incident and we are hoping that members of the public will see this and come forward with any information they have.
“We want anyone who was in the area near to Wicklow Avenue on this day to think back. Can you remember seeing tow men matching the description given? Did you see two men acting suspiciously? Did you see where they went to after the incident? Have you been approached by two men similar to this?
“Any information you have, even if you think it is insignificant, it could help us with our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC 395 Lee Fowler on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 0395. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
