A 37-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on bail pending further enquiries

Detective Constable Darren Symes- Goodman, who is investigating the incident, said: "The Volvo articulated HGV was traveling north bound along the M42, near to Junction 11 where the road becomes the A42, when it was involved in a collision with the Rover 214 SI traveling in the same direction. This then caused a number of other cars, who were in slow moving traffic, to become involved in the collision.

"We would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the vehicles prior to the collision to please get in touch."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 515 Darren Symes- Goodman on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 0515.
