Rock thrown at car on Saffron Road
Officers have issued a warning to people surrounding the dangers of throwing objects at cars after a rock was thrown at a car.
The incident happened around 5.20am on Wednesday July 15, 2009 when a rock was thrown through a window screen of a white Vauxhall Vivaro van travelling along Saffron Road.
It is believed the rock smashed the glass and hit the driver on the head. This caused the driver to lose control of the van and it left the road and collided with bollards and a lamppost.
The driver was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment to minor injuries.
A group of three youths and two girls were seen running away from the scene following the collision towards Eyres Monsell estate.
PC Michael Coulter, who is investigating this incident, said: “Throwing objects at vehicles is a very dangerous practice, which could lead to the death of a driver. Those who do it may see it as just a bit of fun, but the consequences can be very serious.
“We would also ask the perpetrators of these incidents to think about their actions and possible consequences.
“We would urge anyone who has any information about the people responsible for this incident to come forward. We also ask anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the police immediately.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 1722 Michael Coulter on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and enter his identification number 1722. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
