A man arrested by officers in Loughborough is now serving a prison sentence after he was found guilty of burglary.

The court gave Wayne Burnett (30) two 3 month sentences to run concurrently for the offences.

Burnett, of Rockingham Road in Loughborough, pleaded guilty to the burglaries on Monday at Leicester Magistrates Court.

Both offences occurred on Sunday July 26, when Burnett entered the premises and took a laptop and a set of car keys.

PC Chaplin saw Burnett in his car after the burglaries driving along Belton Road west extension. Burnetts driving raised suspicion and the officer followed him and subsequently arrested him.

Police dog Atilla and an officer from the dog unit recovered the stolen property in an alley way near to the premises.

PC Jim Chaplin, the officer investigating the incident, said: Officers located, arrested, charged and sent Burnett to court in just 27 hours, which is a great result.

The magistrate said that Burnett had carried out repeat offences of dishonesty, for which he had a very bad record.

We hope the way we were able to put Burnett before the courts so quickly will reassure the public and residents of Loughborough of the steps wed take to bring offenders to justice, which in turn will help to keep the community safe and free from criminals such as Burnett.
