Enjoy a safe Summer Sundae
Music lovers attending Summer Sundae in Leicester are being offered advice by the local beat officer to ensure they enjoy a crime-free weekend.
The annual event, which runs from Friday August 14 to Sunday August 16 at De Montfort Hall and Gardens, is expected to attract up to 7,000 people each day. A large number will be camping at a designated site in Victoria Park over the weekend.
Over the weekend, Leicestershire Constabulary will be using Bluetooth to send crime prevention messages to peoples mobile phones. The messages will remind people attending the event to look after their valuables, not to carry large amounts of money and, if they are camping, to not leave any items of value in their tents.
PC Harvey Watson, whose beat includes Victoria Park and De Montfort Hall, said: Summer Sundae is attended by many music lovers from all over the country and we want to welcome these people to Leicester and ensure they have a great time.
Officers will be carrying out regular patrols at the event and I urge people to stop and speak with them if they have any questions or want advice.
PC Watson has the following crime prevention tips for festival goers:
- If you cant take your valuables with you when you leave your tent, leave them at home.
- Put money, credit cards and mobile phones in a zipped pocket or use a money belt or place in the bottom of your sleeping bag when you go to sleep.
- Do not bring large sums of cash. Only bring what you need and keep it on you at all times.
- If you arrive by car, dont leave anything on display in your vehicle including sat navs, car stereos, CDs or mobile phones. Dont put items in your glove box or the boot, this is the first place a thief will look.Take everything with you or leave it at home.
