£47,000 have been awarded to local creative businesses

Community Services
27 local creative businesses have been awarded development grants from Creative Leicestershires bursary scheme. Funded by the East Midlands Development Agency emda, over 47,000 has been allocated to help develop these small arts, design and media companies.
The scheme which is now in it is fifth year has helped 75 local businesses since its inception including Cuttlefish, one of the companies behind the Summer Sundae Fringe Festival and Rob Gee a performance poet and comedian currently touring in Canada.
The great thing about this scheme is that we are working directly with the creative entrepreneurs themselves. They are mainly sole traders which means they often dont have the time or resources to shout about what they do. This is a great chance for us to do so! said Clare Hudson, Creative Industries Manager.
Winners from this years round of grants include the film maker Rhys Davies from Leicester, who is just completing his first feature, Zombie Undead, filmed in and around Leicester. He is currently completing his MA in Creative Technologies at De Montfort University and will use his grant to help with the branding of his company to help get his film to market.
Jo Cope is a conceptual textile designer from Blaby, whose products have been used as visual merchandising by companies such as Topshop. Jo graduated with a first class honours degree at Nottingham Trent University and has since been working as a freelance designer. Jo will use her grant to help develop her marketing materials so she can expand her work through out England and worldwide.
