Officers are appealing for witnesses after a 45-year-old man was assaulted in Blaby.

The incident happened at around on 1.10am on Sunday September 20, 2009 after the victim and his friend were at a takeaway shop on Cross Street after leaving a nearby pub.

The men had booked a taxi and when this arrived outside the shop, there was a dispute between the victim and two other men regarding whose taxi it was.

As the victim waited with the taxi, his friend was approached by the two men and was assaulted. A further assault took place with the victim when he got out of the car to assist his friend.

Both men received medical treatment at the Leicester Royal Infirmary for cuts and bruises to their face and head.

A 45-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Sada Bains, who is investigating the incident, said: "If you were in this area at around 1.10am on Sunday morning and witnessed this incident or the events leading up to it, please get in touch with any information you have."
