Police are appealing for witnesses following a cash in transit robbery at a cash point on Ryder Road, Leicester.

The incident happened at around 11.25am today (Thursday October 8) when a security guard, who was making a delivery to the cash point with a colleague, was approached by two men in ski masks.

The men threatened the guard, with what is believed to be a hammer, in order to get her to hand over the money.

The guard managed to close the door to the cash point before the suspects got the cash.

The pair ran off empty handed.

The suspects made their escape in a silver, Seat Leon, which was found a short while, later on fire, in Outwood Close, Braunstone Frith.

It is believed that the two men then left the scene in a blue, Subaru Impreza. This vehicle was last seen travelling towards Liberty Road.

The victims did not receive any injuries as a result of the robbery.

The two men are described as white and were both wearing dark clothing and ski masks.

Sergeant David Parry, the officer investigating the incident, said: Given the location of the incident and the number of shops it has in the area, it is likely that there were a people around that could have witnessed the robbery. It is these people we are appealing to in the hope that they may have some vital information that could help us with our investigation.

Did you witness the incident happen? Did you see two men matching the description after the robbery and did you see where they went?

We would also like to appeal to people who live in the Outwood Close area. Did you see the Seat Leon before and after it was set on fire? Did you see the men enter the Subaru Impreza and did you see where they went?

Any information you have, no matter how small and insignificant it may seem, we would like you to call us.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sgt 1171 David Parry on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 1171. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.

Please note, some mobile phone service providers may charge for this call.
