Inquest returns verdict of unlawful killing
The inquests into the deaths of Hannah Fisher and Simon Marsh have taken place today (Friday October 9, 2009) at Leicester Town Hall.
Coroner, Mrs Catherine Mason, ruled that Simon Marsh took his own life. She recorded a verdict of unlawful killing in respect of Hannahs death.
Detective Superintendent Stu Prior, who led the investigation, said: This was a tragic loss of these two young people whose relationship had recently ended. Simon had just moved into the house in Oadby and Hannah had settled into accommodation within the city centre.
We will never fully know the events of that night, resulting in Hannahs death and Simon taking his own life, but we do know that two families have been left devastated.
The local community was deeply affected and shocked that this happened on their doorstep. We hope that todays inquest will provide them with some answers as how and why these two young people died.
We know from our investigation that Hannah was a victim of domestic abuse by Simon although Hannah never reported this abuse to police.
You dont have to be in a long term relationship or be married to be a sufferer of domestic abuse. We know how hard it is to break away and how difficult victims may find it to come forward and report this to police. We have specialist officers who can support you and can put you in contact with a number of partner agencies who will add to that support.
