Warning after shed burglaries in Roydene Crescent area
Officers are issuing a warning to house owners following a series of burglaries in the Roydene Crescent area.
Between Saturday October 3 and Friday October 9, six burglaries have been reported to police of sheds being broken into in back gardens on Roydene Crescent.
These properties back onto the Blackbird Playing fields and police believe this is where the offenders have gained access to the garden.
Various items have been taken including tools and a bicycle which was later recovered nearby.
PCSO Clare Bradley, from the Abbey Meadows, Stadium Estate and Parker Drive beat team, said: We have been visiting homes in Roydene Crescent and neighbouring streets and have handed out over 60 shed alarms to prevent any further crime happening.
Investigations have been ongoing into these burglariesand anyone who has any information regarding the people responsible to asked to contact police.
There are several ways people can prevent being a victim of this type of crime. These include:
- Ensuring garages and sheds are left locked with appropriate security, such as padlocks and chains.
- Planting thorny bushes and prickly plants planted near to potential access routes, such as fences and walls, are not only a visual deterrent but also a physical barrier to intruders.
- Installing security lights in gardens. If thieves have to make a lot of noise, spend a lot of time, or risk being seen they are unlikely to bother targeting you.
If there are any residents in this area who would like some help and advice on protecting their property, we would ask them to get in touch.
Please contact PCSO 6559 Clare Bradley at Beaumont Leys Local Policing Unit on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in his identification 6559. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
