Police are appealing for witnesses following the assault of a 14-year-old boy in Syston.

The incident happened at around 7.40pm on Thursday October 29, when the victim, who was with his four friends, was assaulted by a man in Barkby Road.

Following the incident the man drove off in a green pick up truck. In the truck was a passenger who it is believed witnessed the assault.

The assault followed a brief altercation between the man and the victim.

The victim received an injury to his nose as a result of the incident but did not attend the hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as white, in his twenties, of slim build and around 6ft tall. He had short, blonde hair, which was shorter on the sides and he was wearing a grey, cotton tracksuit top and bottoms. The top had a round neck and no hood.

PC Kevin Gray, the officer investigating the incident, said: We are appealing to anyone who thinks they may have witnessed the incident to contact us and help us with our investigation.

We would like to ask anyone who lives in, or travels through, the Barkby Road area to think back. Can you remember seeing the incident last Thursday evening? Did you see the events leading up to the assault? Can you remember seeing a green pick up truck and where it drove off to? If so then please call us.

We would like anyone who thinks they know a man who matches our description, who also drives a similar truck, to contact us.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact PC 1124 Kevin Gray on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 1124. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.

* Please note, some mobile phone service providers may charge for this call.
