Residents in Leicester are being invited to find out more about what the police, council and other agencies are doing to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in the city.

As part of the Home Offices Not In My Neighbourhood Week, which runs from Monday November 2 to Friday November 6 2009, the Safer Leicester Partnership is hosting two events in the city which are open to the public.

The first is an Information Fair at the City Rooms in Hotel Street on Thursday November 5. Members of the public are invited to call in between 12 noon and 7pm to chat with representatives from agencies including the Safer Leicester Partnership, Council, Drugs and Alcohol Action Team, Leicestershire Constabulary and Neighbourhood Watch.

The following day, Friday November 6, the Safer Leicester Partnership will also have a stand at Leicester Market from 9am to 6pm. Shoppers are invited to stop and chat to representatives from different agencies.

A campaign to reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour across the city during Bonfire Night celebrations is also taking place during the week.

Not in My Neighbourhood Week is a national campaign which aims to promote what is being done locally to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and encourages the police, public services and communities to work together to keep our streets safe.

Inspector Jason Ross, commander of the city centre local policing unit, said: A great deal of work is going on to tackle issues of anti-social behaviour which impact on visitors, shoppers and workers in the city centre, such as begging and street drinking. These events will provide members of the public with a great opportunity to chat to neighbourhood officers and representatives from other agencies to find out more about what action being taken. Its also an opportunity for them to raise any concerns they may have.

Leicester City Councils cabinet member for Health and Community Safety, Councillor Dawood, said: Leicester is pleased to be involved with the Not in My Neighbourhood campaign. Its important that residents are supported to tackle instead of tolerate anti-social behaviour. The Safer Leicester Partnership is committed to ensuring that people are involved in efforts to make their local communities a better place to live, this is what the week of action helps us to achieve.
