arrest, villain, police, constabularyAppeal following assault in Upper Brown Street

Officers are appealing for two key witnesses to come forward following the assault of two women in Upper Brown Street, Leicester.

The incident happened at about 1.40pm last Friday (November 13), when the two victims, aged 20 and 21-years-old, became involved in an altercation with a woman known to them.

The victims were chased up the road by the woman and a group of eight other women and one man. They were then assaulted.

Two men, who were on Upper Brown Street, spotted the assault and shouted at the group. The group then ran away and the two men helped the victims to their home, where they called the police.

The victims received a number of injuries including cuts, bruising and swelling to their heads. Both victims were taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Two women aged 21 and 25-years-old and a man, aged 20-years-old, have been arrested in connection with the incident and have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

One of the other suspects, who police are still seeking, is described as an Asian woman, aged between 17 and 27-years-old, around 52 to 56 tall and of medium build. She had black curly hair in a pony tail, and was wearing a grey tracksuit with graffiti writing on the front of the top and black trainers. She spoke with a Birmingham accent.

The other suspects are described as Asian girls aged between 16 and 18-years-old.

Sgt Colin Webber, the officer investigating the incident, said: The two victims were left very shaken and upset after the incident and we are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

We are particularly interested in speaking with the two men who helped the victims following the assault.

If you think you are these men, or know who they are, and can remember seeing the incident and helping the women then please get in touch. You could be vital witnesses to what happened and the information you have could help us with our investigation.

At the time of the incident it is likely that people would have been travelling through the city while they were on their lunch breaks. If you work in the city or were in the city on your break last Friday, please think back.

Can you remember seeing a group of about eight women and a man in the Upper Brown Street area? Did you see where the group went? Did you see them prior to the incident? Did you see the assault take place? Any information you have could help so please give us a call.

Anybody with any information is asked to contact Sgt 1731 Colin Webber on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 1731. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.

* Please note, some mobile phone service providers may charge for this call.
