Appeal following homophobic incident in Victoria Park
Police are appealing for witnesses following an assaulton a 21-year-old woman in Victoria Park in Leicester.
The incident happened at about 1.18pm on Monday October 12, 2009 when the victim was walking along a path in the park, heading away from the city centre.
As she passed a group of youths, they shouted homophobic abuse and threw stones at her. One of the stones hit the victim on the ankle.
Two of the youths were sitting on a climbing frame and one was standing up to the left of the path.
They have been described as black, between 14 and 16-years-old and wearing school uniform. Their uniform has been described as a black blazer with a red and yellow crest with a lion on it, black trousers and a white shirt.
The youth standing up is believed to have thrown the stones and has been described as 5 7 tall, with short black hair and of slim build. The two youths sitting down had short black hair and one was of large build.
PC Emma Woodward, who is investigating the incident, said: The victim has been left very upset and distressed by what happened. These kinds of incidents simply will not be tolerated by police.
This happened in the middle of the day in a fairly busy park. I would urge people to think back. Did you witness this incident? Have you seen a group of youths matching this description in the Victoria Park area? Have you been the victim of a similar incident? If so, please contact me.
