Officers from Hinckley Road local policing unit have arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with a robbery in Abbey Park.

The incident happened at about 5pm on Saturday November 14, when a boy aged 16 and a girl aged 14-years-old were approached by two men, one of whom asked the victims for some money.

When they refused the second man threatened them with what is believed to be a screwdriver and both men then searched the victims.

They stole a black and orange mobile phone, a small quantity of cash, a bank card and 2 inhalers.

No one was hurt during the incident.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on Friday November 27 and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The arrest follows a media release where officers issued a warning following a number of robberies in Abbey Park.

Police do not believe the robberies are linked but are keeping an open mind and are still appealing for witnesses, of the two other incidents, to come forward.

The first incident happened at about 4pm on Sunday November 8, when a 39-year-old man was approached from behind by four youths who assaulted him and took his black Sony Ericsson mobile, brown leather wallet containing a small amount of cash and his keys.

The victim was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary by the ambulance service for treatment to his injuries.

The second incident happened at about 3.45pm on Sunday November 15, when a 31-year-old woman was approached by two men on the foot bridge that crosses the River Soar.

The men demanded the victim hand over her bag and when she refused one of them punched her.

Following the assault she handed over her bag, which contained a bank card and a red Nokia mobile phone, and the two men walked off towards the city.

She attended the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment to her injuries.

PC Gemma Bennett, from Hinckley Road local policing unit, said: Although we have a man arrested for one of the incidents we are still appealing for witnesses of the other two incidents to come forward.

We do not believe that the three incidents are linked and are asking anyone who has information about the robberies to call us.

With more people visiting the park during the weekends we are hoping that the likelihood of someone witnessing the incidents will be increased. If you can remember seeing the robberies or know the people responsible then please get in touch.

We also want to make the public aware of the robberies in the hope that it will reduce the chances of it happening to anyone else.

I would like to take this opportunity to urge people to think about the security of their belongings and would advise people to keep items such as their mobile phones out of the view of any potential thieves.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 4534 Gemma Bennett on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in her identification number 4534.Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.

*Please note, some mobile phone providers may charge for this call.
