Appeal following robberies in the Braunstone Gate area
Officers from Hinckley Road local policing unit are appealing for witnesses after receiving reports of two robberies in the area.
The first incident happened at about 12.45am on Tuesday December 1 in Western Road, when a man approached the 19-year-old victim from behind and pushed him against a wall.
The man threatened him with what is believed to be a knife and demanded he hand over his belongings.
The victim emptied his pockets and handed over a Sony Ericsson cyber shot mobile phone, an Apple iPod Nano and a quantity of cash.
The man then hit the victim in the face before running off back up Western Road, away from Braunstone Gate.
The victim received minor injuries and did not attend hospital for treatment.
The second incident happened nearly two hours later at about 2.30am in Briton Street, when the 20-year-old victim was approached by a man who threatened him and then hit him in the face.
The man then threatened him with what is believed to be a knife and told him to get on the ground. At this point the victim handed over a Samsung 3050 mobile phone, a wallet containing various cards and a bunch of keys.
He received injuries to his face but did not attend hospital for treatment.
In both incidents the suspect is described as black and was wearing a black hooded top and balaclava.
PC Janine Hardy, the officer investigating the incident, said: The descriptions of the suspects are very similar, as are the robberies, so we believe they are linked.
Thankfully in both incidents the victims only received minor injuries but this would have still been a scary experience for them. Since the incidents we have been speaking to people and businesses in the area but are still looking for witnesses.
The roads the robberies happened in can regularly get busy as they are surrounded by bars and restaurants. If you live in the area or was out in the Braunstone Gate or Narborough Road area in the early hours of Tuesday morning, we would like you to think back.
Can you remember seeing a man similar to the one described? Did you see where he came from or was walking to? Do you know him? Did you see either of the robberies happen? If so then we would like you to call us and help us with our investigation.
The victim of the incident in Briton Street recalls seeing two men standing on Wilberforce Road, near to the Western Pub, just before the robbery. If you are these men we would like you to contact us as you may have information that could be vital to our investigation.
