Offending moptorists being fined by police

Leicestershire police are warning drivers who parkillegally and dangerously on the streets around the St Matthews Estate that they could face a fine.

The problem associated with badly parked vehicles has been identified as a priority for the St. Matthews Neighbourhood team to tackle after consultation with residents.

PCSO Ali Haq from the St Matthews team said: More and more people, particularly, commuters, are using the estate roads to park when they come into Leicester to work or shop.

We are urging all drivers to stop and think for a moment before parking on the St Matthews Estate.

By parking illegally or inconsiderately, your actions can hinderaccess to emergency service vehicles, residents and other services such as refuse collectors. Pedestrians with pushchairs and wheelchair users are also often being forced to use the road as the pavements are made impassable by badly parked cars.

Our priority is to tackle illegal parking on the St Matthews estate, particularly on Madras Road, Ottawa Road, Lethbridge Road, Labrador Road and Edmonton Road and to improve road safety in the area of Taylor Road Primary and Infants school.

If commuters are parking properly and not causing an obstruction, then there shouldnt be a problem. You can park on a public road as long as there are no road markings, double yellow lines or other signage to signify that parking is not allowed.

The neighbourhood team will continue to carry out regular patrols and will issue fixed penalty notices to offending motorists. The Councils Civil Enforcement Officers will also assist in dealing with persistent offenders.
