City officers bring festive cheer to elderly residents
PCSO Tracey Ward serves lunch at Age Concern
Neighbourhood officers across Leicester have been bringing some festive cheer to elderly residents this week.
Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers have been serving up Christmas lunches and visiting elderly residents in their homes to deliver food parcels.
On Wednesday (December 16), officers in New Parks invited nine elderly people who have all been victims of crime to a Christmas lunch hosted by New College. After the meal they presented each of them with a hamper of food.
Neighbourhood officers from Leicester city centre also helped serve turkey with all the trimmings to around 150 diners at two lunchtime events held at Age Concerns Clarence House in Humberstone Gate this week.
Sergeant Nicola Woods said: This provided us with a great opportunity to get to know some of our older residents in Leicester. The Christmas lunches are a fantastic tradition and have been run by Age Concern for several years.
Many of the older residents will be spending Christmas on their own so it was lovely to serve them lunch in true community spirit.
Meanwhile neighbourhood officers in St Matthews helped Jean Williams from the local tenants association to deliver food parcels to elderly residents on the estate.
The parcels were put together thanks to donations from local groups and businesses in St Matthews.
88-year-old Peggy White who received a hand-delivered parcel from Jean Williams and PC Karen Hurley said: Its a lovely thing for them to do, but that is what it is like around here.
The police and Jean at the tenants association are always there to help us and we all really appreciate what they do for us.
Receiving some nice food at this time of year is a lovely thing and it shows how much they care for the older ones here.
