Police are appealing for witnesses after a car was damaged while it was parked on a road in Thurnby Lodge.

At about 7.50pm on New Years Day (Friday January 1) officers received a report of four men hitting a parked car in St Austell Road.

The four men, who were wearing balaclavas, were witnessed getting out of a silver Ford Mondeo just before they began hitting the car with an unknown object. They then got back into the Mondeo and drove off.

The car was left with damage to the bonnet, the doors and windows.

PC Pushpa Keshvala, the officer investigating the incident, said: The car was quite badly damaged and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to call us.

With four people hitting the car there would have been quite a bit of noise, so if you live in the area you might have heard the banging and looked outside to see what it was. If so then you may have seen those responsible or have details of the vehicle they were driving.

As the incident happened on New Years Day we are hoping most people will have a good memory of where they were and what they were doing. So if you were in the area and know anything about the incident or the people responsible, please call us.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 4582 Pushpa Keshvala on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 4582. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.

* Please note, some mobile phone service providers may charge for this call.
