Creative youngsters will be presented with prizes after taking part in a poster competition to raise awareness of mental health.

A prize giving will take place at 6pm on Thursday in County Hall where the winners will be awarded 50 to spend on resources for their youth groups.

The contest was organised by the councils Youth Service in a bid to raise awareness of Mental Health Day in October.

The judging has now taken place with Winstanley Girls Group, who are based in Braunstone Town, winning the 11-14 years category and James Royce (15), who attends the Croft Thursday Night Project Youth Group, winning the 15-19 years category.

Runners up will also be awarded with certificates at the event.

Cllr Graham Hart, Cabinet support member for Children and Young People who helped judge the competition, said: We were impressed with the standard of entries and would like to congratulate everyone who took part for the effort they put into this.

Mental health issues can be experienced by people of all ages and from all walks of life and it is important we raise awareness of the help and support that is available out there.

The winning posters are to be printed and will be displayed in young peoples venues across the county such as schools, youth centres, Connexion centres and libraries.
