Two people have been arrested and a large quantity of whats thought to be stolen property has been recovered from a flat in Loughborough.

Following information from the community, officers executed a warrant under the Theft Act 1968 at a property on Kingfisher Way on Wednesday 27th January 2010. Officers found a large quantity of property at the flat which they suspect is stolen. The property includes a large quantity of tools, including power tools, two bicycles, car stereos, car keys, coats, CDs, DVDs, boxed sets of blinds, tiles and paint, strimmers and hedge clippers. There are nearly 100 separate items and the police are keen to return them to their rightful owners.

A 16 year oldgirl has been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen property and a 31 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary. They have both been bailed.

Sergeant Nigel Rixon, from Loughboroughs Neighbourhood Action Team, said; We have recovered a large quantity of property which is possibly worth about ten thousand pounds. The warrant was carried out as part of our campaign to tackle student burglaries and our action shows that we will act strongly on information we receive from the public to tackle this type of crime. We will continue to target the people who commit burglaries and handle stolen property in our fight to reduce the number of offences.

It is difficult identifying who the property belongs to so I would urge anyone who has recently had tools stolen, or been the victim of a burglary, to get in touch and we can see if we have your property.

Because we have recovered a large quantity of tools and builders materials some of the property may have been taken from vans so were also keen to find builders or decorators who may have had things stolen from their vans.

Operation Umble is a campaign to tackle student burglaries. Between January 7th 2010 and January 31st 2010 there was a reduction in burglaries of 16% compared to the same period last year. All the victims were aged between 18 and 24.

If anyone has any information about burglaries in the Loughborough area they can call Leicester (0116) 222 2222 or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 which is free* and anonymous.

Anyone who thinks the property might belong to them should call DC Alf Doyle on Leicester (0116) 222 2222 and when prompted, key in his collar number 0170 and leave a message.
