Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was robbed as he walked along Humberstone Gate in Leicester.

The incident happened at about 9.20pm on Friday January 15, as the 27-year-old victim walked into town.

As he passed Yeoman Street he noticed three or four men stood in the street, just a second later he was assaulted, knocking him unconscious.

When he woke his belongings had been stolen.

He went home and contacted the police and then attended the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment to his injuries.

Taken in the robbery was a silver Nokia 2760 mobile phone, a pair of glasses, a packet of cigarettes and small amount of cash.

PC Natalie Dean, the officer investigating the incident, said: The man was walking along Humberstone Gate when the robbery happened, which can get quite busy on a Friday evening.

If you tend to socialise in the area we would like you to think back to January 15. Were you out in the area that night? Did you see that robbery? Did you see three or four men walking away from a man who was on the ground? Do you know those responsible? If so, please call us.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 4632 Natalie Dean on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 4632. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.

* Please note, some mobile phone service providers may charge for this call.
