A 17-year-old youth was sentenced to a 12 month detention and training order after pleading guilty to robbery.

The youth, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared at Leicester Youth Court for sentencing on Thursday, January 28.

The sentence relates to a robbery which took place at around 1pm on Monday September 28 2009, in Gleneagles Walk, Leicester. The offender, wearing a mask in an attempt to disguise himself, stopped and intimidated a 15-year old boy in the alleyway, before stealing his mobile phone.

Leicester Youth Court sentenced the teenager to a 12 month detention and training order which means that he will spend a proprtion of that time in a young offenders' institute and the rest of the sentence in the community under the supervision of the Youth Offending Service.

PC Rob Poutney from Keyham Lane Local Policing Unit said The offender thrived on intimidating his victim, leaving him feeling vulnerable and scared after the incident.

Despite this, the victim was brave enough to make a stand and gave vital evidence in court, helping to secure a conviction.
