Officers in Melton are appealing for witnesses following an incident in Brightside Avenue.

The incident happened sometime between 10am and 12.50pm on Tuesday February 2, when the 61-year-old victim called police as she believed someone had been in her home while she had been out.

Upon further investigation the victim found that a number of items in her home had been moved about but nothing had been taken.

Detective Constable Gareth Coggins, the officer investigating the incident, said: Although nothing was taken the victim still felt very shaken after realising someone had been in her home and we are very keen to speak to anyone who knows anything about the incident.

The victim was out of her home between 10am and 12.50pm that day so we would like anyone who was in the area during that time to think back. Did you see anyone acting suspiciously in the area? Did you see them enter the house? Did you see where they went after the incident? Do you know who they are? If so, please call us.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 2182 Gareth Coggins on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 2182. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.

* Please note some mobile phone service providers may charge for this call.
